How Long Does it Take to Apply for a Canadian Study Permit?

Each application is different, and time varies with every individual. The shortest processing time is 2-3 weeks, but some applicants can expect to wait as long as 16 weeks. Processing times depend on the volume of applications received and from your country of residence. If you are applying close to the beginning of Canada’s academic year (August / September), you may experience some delays.

Can I work while Studying?

The majority of study permits automatically authorize International Students to work in Canada. Most Canadian study permits allow a full-time international student to work up to 20-hours per week during regular school sessions and undertake full-time employment during school breaks and holidays.

Can I bring my family to Canada?

All International Student applicants for Canadian Study Permit can bring their spouses or common-law partners and dependent children. It’s important to note that the decision on whether a study permit will be granted always rests with the immigration official responsible for your case, and applying with your family may affect the decision.

Spouses and common-law partners of study-permit holders can apply for an open work permit during their stay in Canada. With this, partners of those studying will be able to work in Canada for as many employers as they choose. Openwork permits offer great freedom and flexibility and allow the holder to gain valuable Canadian work experience.
